Nintendo Makes November 1 Pikmin Day, With a Switch 2 Demo Coming Monday

November 1 has apparently become an official holiday for people who enjoy commanding tiny plant creatures and getting far too emotionally attached to a space dog. Nintendo used a surprise presentation on October 31 to declare the first annual Pikmin Day, giving one of its strangest and most charming series a date of its own.

There is a wonderfully Nintendo explanation for the choice: line up the original red, blue and yellow Pikmin and they resemble the digits 11/1. It’s the sort of logic that makes absolutely no sense until you see it, and then seems inevitable. More importantly for players, the celebration comes with a closer look at the next version of Pikmin 4 and a free demo reportedly arriving Monday, November 2.

What Switch 2 players are getting

Nintendo’s official product listing confirms that Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy releases November 12. The enhanced edition adds sharper visuals, voice commands for Oatchi using the console’s built-in microphone, and Dandori Academy, a collection of challenges built around organizing your little workforce efficiently.

Nintendo says 72 Academy stages will roll out over time, rather than all appearing at launch. There is also GameShare support for Dandori Battles, allowing another player to join a session without owning a separate copy, subject to Nintendo’s system and online requirements. Existing Pikmin 4 owners won’t have to purchase the entire game again: Nintendo lists an upgrade-pack option for the Switch 2 features.

The October 31 coverage from The Verge also reports a Pikmin Bloom mobile update called Secret Caves and a new series of animated Hello! Pikmin shorts. Those are separate from the Switch 2 game, so don’t confuse the announcements with a surprise Pikmin 5 reveal. Nintendo’s official game listing confirms the November 12 release, while the November 2 demo timing comes from coverage of the new presentation.

A surprisingly good fit for a gaming holiday

There are louder franchises Nintendo could have chosen for a dedicated calendar day. But Pikmin has always had a different rhythm: explore a little, plan a little, lose track of time, and try not to leave anyone behind when the sun goes down. Turning that into a yearly celebration feels less like another giant product launch and more like an excuse to revisit a series that rewards curiosity.

For Canadian Switch 2 owners, the useful dates are straightforward: watch for the demo on November 2 and the full Switch 2 edition on November 12. If you already own Pikmin 4, check the upgrade-pack listing before buying a second copy. The tiny workers would probably appreciate that kind of planning.
