October 21, 2026. Google’s October scam-protection announcement covers several features with different release dates. Treat it as a rollout checklist rather than assuming your phone already has every safeguard.
What is coming
Google says Enhanced protection in Messages is an opt-in setting rolling out over the coming weeks. It adds cloud-based scam analysis through Private AI Compute, alongside stronger link checks on supported devices.
Screen-sharing privacy is expanding to login and payment fields in Chrome and Android WebView this month on Android 15 and newer. Call-forwarding protection is due from early December on Pixel and selected other devices. Broader notification scam alerts are planned for additional manufacturers later this year.
Check the feature, not just the headline
Availability depends on the device, feature and market. Keep Android, Messages and Chrome updated, then read the description of any new protection offered in settings. Optional cloud analysis is a separate choice from simply installing an update.
A warning is a useful interruption, but its absence should not establish a caller’s identity. When a message or call requests an urgent account action, open the service through your usual app or contact it using a number you already trust.
