Gaming Brief | October 16, 2026
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Campaign Early Access is live today, one week before the full game launches on October 23. The name matters: this is access to the complete single-player campaign for eligible digital preorder customers, not the full multiplayer and DMZ release.
The entire 16-mission campaign is included
Activision says the early-access build includes all 16 campaign missions. The story moves across the Korean Peninsula, Paris, New York and Mumbai, alternating between Private Park Hyun Jun’s fight against an invasion in Korea and outlaw John Price’s pursuit of the person behind the larger conflict.
Those plot details come from the publisher’s launch material, not an independent review. Early access gives players the full story; it does not establish how well the campaign performs or plays across every platform.
Who qualifies
Access requires a digital preorder or pre-purchase of either the Standard Digital Edition or Vault Edition. Eligible platforms are Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam and Nintendo Switch 2.
The digital requirement is important. The announcement does not say that every physical preorder receives Campaign Early Access, so buyers should check the terms attached to the specific edition and store before assuming access is included.
Rewards carry forward at full launch
Campaign progress unlocks a sequence of operators, calling cards, an emblem, a loading screen and double-XP or double-weapon-XP tokens. Activision says those rewards become usable in Multiplayer and DMZ when the full game launches.
In other words, finishing the story early can prepare an account for launch day, but the announcement does not promise immediate use of those rewards in modes that have not opened yet.
What happens next
- October 16: Campaign Early Access begins for qualifying digital preorders.
- October 20: DMZ Early Access is scheduled to begin.
- October 23: Modern Warfare 4 launches in full.
For players deciding whether to jump in today, the simplest description is the most accurate: the whole campaign is available, while the rest of the game remains on the launch calendar.
